The Role
The Legal Counsel will be responsible for the following:

  • Providing comprehensive and wide ranging legal support to relevant functions;
  • Advising the company on resolutions of internal operational risks;
  • Drafting and reviewing a range of legal documentation;
  • Providing ad hoc legal support to key internal stakeholders, at all levels;
  • Assisting the business with litigation and corporate transactional support.
The Requirements
This role would suit a mid-level lawyer, with either in-house or private practice experience in a dedicated employment law function. Some key requirements include:
  • Admission as a solicitor in Australia with 3+ years PQE;
  • Training at a reputable private practice firm, or in a similar in-house role;
  • Dedicated employment law experience;
  • Experience working with large corporate clients;
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills;
  • A dedicated team player that is collaborative and dynamic in their approach to legal work;
  • Strong time management skills and a demonstrated ability to be able to effectively prioritise work as required.

The Role
The Senior Legal Counsel will be responsible for the following:
  • Drafting and negotiating a range of customer contracts, largely with government clientele;
  • Advising the business on complex commercial transactions;
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating industry-specific contracts;
  • Advising the company's executive on any ad hoc queries;
  • Providing training to the business on a range of legal and commercial matters;
  • Project management of major deals;
  • Mentoring and developing junior lawyers.
  
The Requirements
This role would suit an experienced lawyer, currently working in-house or in private practice, who is interested in taking on a challenging role to advance their in-house career. Some key requirements include:
  • Admission as a solicitor in Australia or New Zealand.
  • At least 7 years' PQE in (ideally) commercial law, with exposure to general commercial contracting. The company is also very open to lawyers with more litigious backgrounds.
  • Experience liaising with government clients.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced stakeholder management skills, and an ability to effectively interact with a range of internal stakeholders at all levels of the business (including the executive).
