The Company
We’ve partnered with an ASX-listed financial services organisation looking to hire a Legal Counsel to join its team. The company is a household name in the Australian market and has developed a reputation as a clear industry leader. At the heart of the company’s strong reputation is its commitment to the development and wellbeing of its staff.

The company’s legal team is well-established and has developed good standing as a commercial partner to the remainder of the business. The lawyers in the team are experienced, well-trained, highly professional and extremely supportive.

The Role
This role would suit a lawyer with approximately 3 years’ experience in financial services regulatory law. The role will focus on various aspects of financial services regulation, AML/CTF laws, consumer credit, privacy and payments systems. You’ll be working in a large legal team but with the close support of experienced financial services and general commercial lawyers.

You’ll also be responsible for providing internal training to the business and briefing external counsel as required.

The Requirements
The successful candidate will be qualified to practice law in Australia and New Zealand, and possess a combination of the following key professional and personal attributes:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in financial services regulation, payments, AML/CTF or consumer credit, gained from a reputable law firm or similar in-house role;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear and succinct legal advice;
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and prioritise key tasks;
  • A willingness to develop long term relationships with key internal stakeholders;
  • A ‘team first’ mentality and a desire to work as part of a high functioning team;
  • Ability to work autonomously when required, but also ask for support if necessary.
