Beacon Legal has partnered with a leading global financial services company in its search for a Legal Counsel.
The Company
The company is one of the most well-known financial institutions in the country. It’s legal team is large and multi-disciplinary, and is made up of high quality lawyers from a range of firm backgrounds. The team is a collegiate, collaborative group that operates as a genuine commercial partner to the rest of the business. This role reports directly to an experienced senior lawyer who has worked with the business for many years.
The Role
This role is a genuine opportunity for a lawyer to work as a strategic business partner. As Legal Counsel, you’ll be partnering with key internal stakeholders to drive legal and commercial decision making on strategic group projects.
The work will include, but not be limited to:

  • Advising the company in relation to transaction structure, legal risks, key issues and opportunities;
  • Delivery of regulatory and compliance project work;
  • Providing ongoing advice and analysis relating to transactions and other legal issues which may arise within the business from time to time;
  • Working closely with relevant internal teams to advise on intra-group transactions;
  • Providing internal legal training to the business;
  • Building and maintaining strong commercial relationships with key business stakeholders across all divisions and at varying levels of seniority.

The Requirements
The ideal candidate will be a mid-level banking or corporate lawyer with an excellent technical background. Key criteria include:

  • Admission as a lawyer in Australia or New Zealand;
  • At least 3 years’ PQE in corporate or banking law gained from a reputable mid or top-tier Australian or international law firm, or from a similar in-house position;
  • Experience dealing with APRA would be highly advantageous;
  • Strong drafting skills and a demonstrable ability to communicate in a clear, concise and practical way;
  • A proven ability to effectively manage relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the business.
