Beacon Legal has been exclusively engaged by a leading global healthcare company looking to add a Legal Counsel to its in-house team. This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with corporate or commercial experience to transition into a unique and impactful in-house role, with a company that is making a genuine difference to thousands of lives.
The Company

The legal team is a made up of a number of high performing lawyers, all with an excellent technical backgrounds. The team is a collegiate, collaborative group that operates as a genuine commercial partner to the rest of the business. This role reports directly to the Head of Legal.
The Role
The Legal Counsel will be responsible for drafting and reviewing a range of commercial documents, providing general legal advice, assisting with litigation, responding to regulatory issues and engaging in various other aspects of in-house legal practice. It’s a broad corporate and commercial role that would suit a lawyer with strong technical drafting and stakeholder management skills.
The work will include, but not be limited to:

  • Advising the company in relation to transaction structure, legal risks, key issues and opportunities;
  • Drafting, negotiating and settling a range of commercial documents;
  • Providing ongoing advice and analysis relating to transactions and other legal issues which may arise within the business from time to time;
  • Liaising with external law firms as required;
  • Managing disputes as and when they arise;
  • Providing internal legal training to the business;
  • Building and maintaining strong commercial relationships with key business stakeholders across all divisions and at varying levels of seniority.

The Requirements
The ideal candidate will be a mid to senior corporate/commercial lawyer with an excellent technical background. Key criteria include:

  • Admission as a lawyer in Australia or New Zealand;
  • At least 3 years’ PQE in corporate and commercial law gained from a reputable mid or top-tier Australian or international law firm, or from a similar in-house position;
  • Experience in as many of the following as possible would be advantageous – commercial contracts, employment, data and privacy, M&A, property and regulatory law;
  • Strong drafting skills and a demonstrable ability to communicate in a clear, concise and practical way;
  • A proven ability to effectively manage relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the business.
