We're working with a leading Australian technology company looking to hire a Senior Legal Counsel to join its in-house team. This is a really exciting opportunity to be a part of a high performing legal unit and work on a range of general commercial matters.
The Company
This company is a well-known Australian technology business which also offers services across the telecommunications, media and broadcasting space. The company is renowned for its emphasis on client service, company culture and innovation. The Australian legal team is a close-knit group of highly skilled lawyers who advise the business on general commercial, corporate, technology and telecommunications matters.
The Role
The Senior Legal Counsel will be responsible for the following:
  • Drafting and negotiating a range of customer contracts, largely with government clientele;
  • Advising the business on complex commercial transactions;
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating industry-specific contracts;
  • Advising the company's executive on any ad hoc queries;
  • Providing training to the business on a range of legal and commercial matters;
  • Project management of major deals;
  • Mentoring and developing junior lawyers.
The Requirements
This role would suit an experienced lawyer, currently working in-house or in private practice, who is interested in taking on a challenging role to advance their in-house career. Some key requirements include:
  • Admission as a solicitor in Australia or New Zealand.
  • At least 7 years' PQE in (ideally) commercial law, with exposure to general commercial contracting. The company is also very open to lawyers with more litigious backgrounds.
  • Experience liaising with government clients.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced stakeholder management skills, and an ability to effectively interact with a range of internal stakeholders at all levels of the business (including the executive).
  • Time management skills and a demonstrated ability to be able to effectively prioritise work as required.
  • A willingness to work as part of a close-knit, high performing and genuinely charismatic team unit.
